Integrated Aqua Systems, Inc. is delighted to share our recently completed project at The Sound School in New Haven, CT. The project involved the renovation of the water intake system and six Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) for aquaculture education and research.
The intake system was designed to take raw seawater from Long Island Sound and bring it down to 1 micron. The RAS systems were designed to provide students with hands-on aquaculture experience and conduct research in sustainable aquaculture practices. The systems were designed and fabricated with state-of-the-art equipment, including CM Aqua Drum Filter, SITA HDPE UV Sterilizer, BioE Biofilters, FLV Series Bag Filters, Waterco Media Filters, Delta Hydronics Chillers, protein fractionators, and multiple pump systems.
The SITA HDPE UV Sterilizers are designed for warm saltwater applications and are ideal for use in RAS systems. The high-output (HO) lamps provide effective sterilization in flow ranges from 25 gpm to 175 gpm. The use of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) vessel material ensures durability, strength, and resistance to UV-C.
BioE Biofilters are the latest in biofiltration technology for aquaculture. BioE biofilters utilize IAS BioElement biological media, which provides high usable surface area per unit volume in a form-stable, injection-molded plastic element. The media is not prone to binding together, wedging, or disintegrating over time. It is engineered in a medium-density product designed specifically for use in moving bed biofilters, allowing better mixing in the vessel with less aeration required, leading to a more energy-efficient filter.
The FLV series bag filters are designed for high flow rates and can handle a variety of applications. They are designed to remove particulate matter from water, making them ideal for use in RAS systems. The Waterco sand filters are designed for effective filtration and are ideal for use in RAS systems.
Lastly, the pumps provided by IAS ensure that the RAS systems are operating effectively. IAS offers a complete range of pumps and accessories used in aquatic systems to meet the specific needs of our customers. The pumps and accessories can be selected for any scale project from small aquatic systems to large-scale commercial aquaculture and public aquarium projects.
The completed project at The Sound School showcases IAS's commitment to providing high-quality aquatic equipment and systems tailored exactly to the needs of our customers. We are proud to have been a part of this project and to have contributed to the education and research of sustainable aquaculture practices.
